Focus group sessions will merge with next month’s NAB meetings

The Reimagine Reno focus groups, which have been hosted by the City of Reno since August and will continue through October, will soon merge with the City’s five upcoming Neighborhood Advisory Board (NAB) meetings.

The focus sessions are part of the City of Reno’s two-year effort to create a new master plan to ensure the city continues to grow in positive ways for the next 20 years. The primary goal of Reimagine Reno is to gather valuable public input that will help policymakers shape the city’s future.

“I hope that all Reno residents take the opportunity to provide input on their vision for the future of our community,” Ward 1 Reno City Councilmember Jenny Brekhus says. “This is one of the most important initiatives we are undertaking. The master plan is the guiding document that sets the policy for how our city will develop in the next 20 years, so it is critical that it represents the collective view of the Reno citizenry.”

The Ward 1 NAB will meet on Thursday, October 1.

“It’s important that we engage the public in this process,” Reno City Manager Andrew Clinger says. “This is a unique opportunity for citizens to have their voices heard at a pivotal point in Reno’s history.”

The public participation process includes a 21-question survey. So far, the City has received more than 1,600 responses to the online survey, and more than 900 people have participated in the in-person meetings and focus group sessions. The City’s goal is to gather input from at least 4,000 residents by the end of October 2015.

Citizens can attend one of the many Reimagine Reno focus group sessions, including this evening from 5:30 to 7 p.m. at the Terry Lee Wells Nevada Discovery Museum, where the discussion will focus on Climate Change and Resiliency.

A Reimagine Reno presentation and discussion item will also be on the respective agendas for the five October NAB meetings. A schedule of upcoming focus groups and NAB meetings follows:
