Stolen vehicles, robberies and several vehicle pursuits have been keeping the Sparks and Reno police departments busy.

Beginning September 4, 2015 both departments began investigating stolen vehicle cases in the Reno area.

According to police, “law enforcement in the area was involved in several vehicle pursuits with the stolen vehicles. It is believed the same suspects were responsible for the stolen vehicles, robberies, and vehicle pursuits.”

Police say that stolen vehicles were used in two robberies, at WalMart and at Jones West Ford on Kietzke Lane.

On September 7, one of the stolen vehicles was located at Austin Crest Apartments on Grand Summit.

Police began surveillance on the vehicle, and at 2 p.m. today a suspect returned to the vehicle only to flee from police. The suspect led several law enforcement agencies on a chase toward Sparks where he ultimately fled on foot.

The suspect was found, with help from eyewitnesses, at the 1900 block of 4th Street. According to police, he fled “on foot, discarded a firearm while fleeing, but was ultimately apprehended by a Sparks police canine.”

The suspect was identified as Stephen Christie, age 27.  He was arrested for armed robbery, eluding and being an ex-felon in possession of a firearm.
