Date:

reno_police_rpd-4502205-1210546PRESS RELEASE

At 3 PM on July 31, 2015 Reno Police Dispatch received a 911 call from a bail bondsman who believed he found an improvised explosive device (pipe bomb) inside a residence in the 2000 block of Harding Way in Northwest Reno. The bail bondsman was at the residence attempting to locate a subject when he located the device and called Reno Police.

Due to the potential explosive hazards to the community in the immediate area, officers evacuated houses in the area and blocked off access to the area for several hours while members of the Reno Police SWAT team worked with the Consolidated Bomb Squad to determine if there were actually improvised explosives in the house.

With Reno Fire and REMSA standing by in case of an actual explosion, members of the Bomb Squad did locate two active improvised devices, commonly referred to as pipe bombs, inside the residence, which was unoccupied at the time. The devices were rendered safe by the Bomb Squad Technicians and were placed inside a bomb transportation trailer and safely removed from the area.

The Reno Police Department wants to thank the citizens in the area of this incident for their cooperation and understanding during this very long and potentially hazardous situation.

The Reno Police Department is not looking for any outstanding suspects at this time, but the investigation into this case is continuing. Anyone with any information is asked to please contact the Reno Police Department at (775) 334-2175, or Secret Witness at (775) 322-4900, www.secretwitness.com, or text the tip to 847411 (TIP411) keyword – SW.
