The Slide The City event scheduled for August 22, 2015 on Ralston Street has been canceled. According to a statement circulated by the City of Reno, the reason is that “Slide the City has canceled all of their 2015 events in drought areas.

“They hope to come back with a permit request in a year when drought conditions have improved.”

The event received some push-back on its Facebook event page.

With the extreme drought here in the Reno/Tahoe area, I think this is a stupid idea to have this event here. Have it somewhere else,” wrote one user.

The event was being put on by a franchisee of the Slide the City, LLC based out of Salt Lake City, according to David Wulf, a co-owner of the company.
