Sierra Arts is excited to welcome back poet and activist Michelle Myers for a spotlight performance. This event is all ages and will start at 7 p.m.. Local poets, MJ Ubando and Whitney Reyes, will be opening up the night. We are asking a $5 donation to support our traveling poet and the Sierra Arts space but we welcome all to enjoy the night!

Emma Sepulveda and Ivon Padilla-Rodriguez will be hosting a discussion at Sundance Books and Music on the new book The Country I Call Home: Stories of Growing Up a Citizen in Every Way But One, a book of first person essays tied together by essays written by Sepulveda and Padilla-Rodriguez. The event will start at 6:30 p.m. and is free.

The Lentils and Grape Room @ Holland Project

The Lentils and Grape Room will be taking the stage at Holland Reno all the way from Brattleboro, Vermont. The Lentils are jangly slop rockers. They make it simple, drawing influence from 60s pop rock but adding in your favorite parts of King Tuff and Neutral Milk Hotel. Grape Room make psychedelic inspired weirdo pop. They’re whimsical and wild, mixing Sgt. Pepper’s trippy rock with 80s synth pop. Showtime is 8 p.m. and tickets are $5.

Folklorico de la Sierra @ Wingfield Park for World Dance Festival

Join Artown for the World Dance Festival at Wingfield Park. The program will feature dance styles from around the world, including China – Little Swan Chinese Dancers, Greece – St. Anthony’s Greek Dancers, India – Amrit Goraya Dancers, Ireland – Martin School of Irish Dance, Basque Country – Reno Zazpiak Bat Basque Club, Italy – The Conservatory of Movement, Hawaii – Halau Hula O’Leilani, Africa – Reno World Dance Collective, and Mexico – Folklorico De La Sierra. This event starts at 8 p.m. and is free.

Wednesday, July 29

Head over to the Nevada Museum of Art for Sit and Sketch, a program that provides people of all ages the chance to play with and explore a variety of drawing, sketching, and painting materials. Participants are welcome to bring their own sketchbooks and tools, but paper and other materials will also be available. Sit and Sketch is from 1-4 p.m., free, and open to the public.

Join the Nevada Museum of Art and the Community Foundation of Western Nevada for an open forum on the State of the Arts, discussing the region’s cultural anchors and areas of opportunity for the future. The panel discussion is from 1:30–5 p.m., followed by a reception from 5–6:30 p.m. The forum is free for the general public and museum members.

The Holland Project has a great night of poetry planned. There will be a free workshop at 5 p.m. with poet and activist Michelle Myers. At 6:30 p.m., Myers will guest host and feature in the youth poetry slam, which is open to young people under the age of 18. It’s $5 to participate in the slam and winner takes all. General admission to the slam is $5.

RTC Executive Director Lee Gibson will be hosting a talk at the Nevada Museum of Art about reimagining the Virginia Street Corridor. Gibson will be discussing the creative threads forming the Virginia Street Corridor transit project to improve community access to the creative districts near Midtown and Downtown Reno. The talk will begin at 12 p.m. and is $10 for the general public and free for museum members.

Beer! #2: Brews and Music @ se7en teahouse

se7en teahouse and bar and Future Kind are teaming up for Beer! #2: Brews and Music, a night of brews and music. The event will start at 7 p.m. in the West Street Market and move to se7en at 10 p.m. Tickets are $20 in advance. Tastings provided by Lagunitas and High Sierra Brewing.

Join Sierra Arts for the closing reception and pop-up dinner for Franz Szony’s Wise Witches. Mark Estee will be preparing a special tasting menu to coincide with the Szony exhibition Wise Witches. Uniquely flavored beer pairings provided by Under the Rose Brewery. Tickets are $65 and very limited. This fundraiser will benefit the Arts in Education Program of Sierra Arts. This artist residency program provides an arts curriculum and a professional artist to students in elementary level classrooms throughout Washoe County. Get swept up in the magic of Romeo and Juliet at Nightingale Concert Hall on the University of Nevada, Reno campus. Put on by the Sierra Nevada Ballet, the show promises to be a night of enchantment and beauty. Showtime is 7:30 p.m. and tickets are $30 for general admission and $22 for seniors, students, and military.

Join Abigail Swanson at Blue Whale Coffee Company for the opening of her show, Like, Obsessed. Abby has lived in Reno for six months and is like, obsessed. Her show is a reflection of her love of the Biggest Little City. The show will be on view until August 31. Blue Whale is located at 32 Cheney Street.
