The Washoe County Library District is offering its patrons an opportunity to eliminate their fines for overdue books and other items. From May 4 to May 31, library visitors can bring one non-perishable food item for every overdue book, movie, CD, magazine, etc. The grace period does not apply to lost or damaged items, though. Food donated in Reno will be given to the Food Bank of Northern Nevada, while food donated in Incline Village will be given to Project MANA.

These food items are especially needed: canned meats, fish, peanut butter; macaroni & cheese and pasta meals; powdered milk, baby formula, baby food; complete meals in a can such as stew, chili, ravioli, hearty soups; canned fruits, juice, vegetables; dry cereal, oatmeal, rice. In 2014, the library district collected over 20,000 pounds of food.
