17th Annual EuroFest at Sands Regency, June 5-7, 2015

(RENO, NV) The Sand’s Regency’s 17th Annual EuroFest brings together free live entertainment, a wide variety of European cuisine and craft beer, and a multitude of craft booths to provide northern Nevada with a fun-filled celebration of culture for all ages. EuroFest is open Friday, June 5 from 4 p.m. to 10 p.m., Saturday, June 6 from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. and Sunday, June 7 from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. It is free to attend the event and funds raised benefit the Shriners Hospitals for Children.

Headlining again this year, The Young Dubliners will get the crowd moving and grooving with their brand of Irish-flavored rock. Also returning this year to rock downtown Reno is Brother, hailing from Los Angeles via Australia. Both bands perform Friday and Saturday nights.

The Gruber Family Band, who has played EuroFest for over a decade now, will perform several times throughout the day on Saturday and Sunday. Joining them, newcomer Polka Power California will also bring their high energy, Slovenian-style polka to audiences during several performances on Saturday and Sunday.

Attendees can enjoy a smorgasbord of food from Germany, Italy, Ireland and Spain. Offerings include a sausage plate with choice of grilled bratwurst or knockwurst, braised cabbage with apples, lasagna, corned beef, Basque chorizo sandwiches, Bee Sting cake and apple strudel and more. Mario’s Portofino Ristorante Italiano will have booth again this year.

There is no shortage of beverages to enjoy as well. This year we will feature a full bar. Plus the selection of beers seems endless with offerings such as Young’s Chocolate Stout, Lindemans Framboise, Pilsner Urquell, Weihenstephaner, Chimay Cinq Cents, Rodenbach, Ayinger Celebrator and Spaten Oktoberfest. Featured craft beers include Brasserie St. James Red Headed Stranger, Unibroue Ephemere Cherry, North Coast Pranqster and more.

This year EuroFest will be held under the Sands’ 10,000 square foot tent located south of Third Street on Arlington Avenue. In addition to ample room for seating and dancing under the tent, it will house more than 40 craft fair vendors. Crafts include handmade jewelry, quilts, blown glass, candles, barbecue sauce and more.

EuroFest, as always, is free to the public due in large part to the participation of local businesses sponsoring the event.

“This is the 17th year of EuroFest in Reno,” said Lisa Miolini, event coordinator. “We’re excited for another great year of fantastic, family-friendly entertainment while raising money for the Shriners Hospitals for Children.”

ENTERTAINMENT
June 5, 6 & 7, 2015

Headliner:  Young DublinersYoung Dubliners
Band website: www.youngdubliners.com

Young Dubliners return to headline EuroFest 2015 on Friday, June 5 and Saturday, June 6, playing from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. each night. The band is a crowd favorite every year with its hybrid brand of soulful Irish tradition with a rock and roll kick. Attendees can expect an energetic, sincere stage performance from the Young Dubliners that gets the crowd dancing in no time.

According to the band’s biography, the Young Dubliners sound is commonly called Celtic Rock, but that label doesn’t accurately represent the style of the band as a whole. Vocalist and guitarist for the band, Keith Roberts explains, “the sound was always intended to be a hybrid because we all come from different backgrounds. Even though two of us are from Ireland, a lot of the music we listened to growing up wasn’t Irish at all, but when we got here, we got homesick and developed a new appreciation for Irish Music. In truth the Celtic riffs can just as easily come from the American band members.”

Rockoveramerica.com posted this review of one of their live shows: “They capture the essence of Irish Folk music in a Celtic Rock form. Their blending of such instruments as the violin, Uilleann pipes, Irish whistles, keyboard and mandolin with other traditional rock instruments helps create a sound that just draws you in and doesn’t let you go until the last song is played.”

BROTHER is back again for a second year in a row with its powerful tribal twist on Celtic tradition. BROTHER makes the uncommon combination of the didgeridoo, bagpipes, tribal percussion, powerful guitar work and silky vocals engage crowds in an energetic celebration of music.

Angus, founding member of BROTHER, arrived in Los Angeles from Australia with his brothers a decade ago as little more than a fresh-faced farm boy. In Los Angeles, the boys found themselves busking at Venice Beach, Calif., the Hollywood Bowl and Universal Studios to survive. Since those days, BROTHER evolved its trademark sound while touring extensively in the United States, Canada, Japan, France, Egypt and Australia and has shared stages with Joe Walsh, John Entwhistle, Linkin Park and Alicia Keys.

BROTHER takes the stage at EuroFest on Friday, June 5 from 4 to 6:45 p.m. and Saturday, June 6 from 5 to 6:45 p.m.

The Gruber Family Band
Band website: www.gruberfamilyband.com

Gruber Family BandThe Gruber Family Band has been playing Reno’s EuroFest for over a decade. There is no doubt the northern California band has a commitment to tradition.

With sax and clarinet player Toni Gruber and her brother Peter Gruber on drums and vocals, the Gruber Family Band has been a premier European band for more than 35 years.

Accordionist Michael Kramar, who has played in the band for 11-plus years, bears the nickname “Tons-a-fun” and knows how to get the crowd going. The newest member, Martin Kramar, joins the band on keyboards, sax, clarinet and vocals. Together, the group ensures that everyone in attendance has a great time, filling audiences with great song and good cheer.

The Gruber Family Band takes the stage several times over the weekend, playing Saturday, June 6 from 12:15 p.m. to 1:15 p.m. and 3:15 p.m. to 4:45 p.m., and again on Sunday, June 7 from 12:15 p.m. to 1:15 p.m. and 2:45 to 4 p.m.

Polka Power California

Band email: [email protected]

Polka Power California is a high energy, Slovenian-style polka band from Sacramento, Calif. Although originally from Cleveland, Ohio, over 40 years ago, Polka Power has played on the west coast for several years now entertaining people of all ages. They have a powerful sound, with a Cleveland flare which can be referred to as the band’s backbone. From European waltzes to the high powered polkas, the audience can dance its way down memory lane throughout the performance.

The band includes accordionist and vocalist, Dan Fitterer, from Las Vegas, Nevada, who blows audiences away with his skills on accordion and button-box.  Also on vocals is the one and only, Stefan Kochishan from El Dorado Hills, California and he’s one of the finest tenor saxophonists and clarinet players around. Next to Stefan, is Donna Clay, also on tenor sax and button-box. Last, but certainly not least, is Mark Seibert on drums. He’s referred to as the “Power” behind “Polka Power”.  Mark plays the drums like no other polka drummer in the nation, with power and punch, and amazingly does it without a seatbelt or any other safety nets or devices.

Polka Power California takes the stage several times over the weekend, playing Saturday, June 6 from 11:00 a.m. to noon and 1:30 p.m. to 3:00 p.m., and again on Sunday, June 7 from 11:00 a.m. to noon and 1:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m.
