In Nevada, every 8 hours and six minutes someone is raped. Throughout the month of April, the sheriff’s office will be supporting the Alliance for Victim’s Rights and Sexual Assault Awareness in Northern Nevada. “Sexual violence is a serious problem that can have lasting and harmful effects on victims and their family,” says Sheriff Chuck Allen. “It’s important to raise awareness and have an open discussion about prevention strategies.” See tips for preventing sexual assault here.

March 29, 2015

Willie Harris was arrested on robbery charges on South Virginia Street. Harris approached the victim, grabbing her casino cash out tickets. There was a brief struggle during which the victim injured her wrist.

An investigation is ongoing related to an unoccupied vehicle being shot at on Yori Avenue.

March 30, 2015

Employees arrived at a business on Prototype Drive to find several pieces stored in the business’ backyard had been damaged. The total loss hasn’t been disclosed and the investigation is ongoing. There are no suspects currently.

Kelly Cass was arrested on battery charges on South Virginia Street. When officers went to make contact with the suspect after responding to the call, Cass attempted to flee but was quickly apprehended.

March 31, 2015

Police responded to a possible child luring just east of Reed High School. The driver tried to lure three children into his car, but they wouldn’t go, instead running home to report the incident to their parents, who called police. The suspect was driving a Toyota Camry-style car with faded paint and dirty wheels; the windows were darkly tinted. The suspect is described as a white/Hispanic male, 18-30 years old, wearing a red hat and a blue shirt with red stripes. His right arm may have a tattoo.

Robert Goodman was arrested after officers responded to a vehicle vs. house incident on Orca Way.

April 1, 2015

Police are searching for Gavin Roberts, age 25, wanted for fleeing from detectives after abandoning a stolen vehicle. Roberts is described as a white male adult, 5’7”, 180 pounds, brown eyes, short brown hair, and a long goatee. He was last seen wearing blue jeans and a white t-shirt. He has a criminal history and may be armed.

There was a report of assault with a deadly weapon and robbery on Brinkby Avenue. The suspects began a verbal confrontation with the suspects before producing a gun, stealing some property and fleeing to a waiting vehicle. The suspects are described as 5-6 Hispanic males, mid-teens and one possibly in his late teens, all wearing dark clothing. The vehicle is described as a black, mid-90s Jeep Cherokee.

There was a report of shots fired at Locust and Grand Canyon, but no shell casings were found. The investigation is ongoing.

Officers responded to a report of a residential burglary at Cascade Falls Court. On investigation, officers discovered the window screens had been removed and one window was open. The investigation is ongoing and there are no suspects at this time.

April 2, 2015

Akporode Uwedjojevwe was arrested on charges of pandering and sexual assault on South Virginia Street.

Dina Sands was arrested on charges of child endangerment on North Virginia Street.

Jerry King was arrested after a foot pursuit on East Fourth Street. Officers were conducting a traffic investigation when a fight broke out. Officers attempted to detain King but he broke free and fled on foot. He was discovered shortly after escaping, hiding under a nearby vehicle.

April 3, 2015

The Regional Street Enforcement Team, Crime Suppression Team, and Downtown Enforcement Team conducted a prostitution operation targeting women and under age prostitutes. During the seven hour operation, five women were arrested on various charges, including being underage, in possession of drugs, and more. Bail for prostitution/solicitation is set at $500.
