Reno police are still seeking the public’s help in finding the suspects in a February 23 robbery of a cab driver. The driver picked up the fare in the 2700 block of South Virginia to drive them to Jamaica Park in South Reno. On arrival at the park, the male fare attacked the driver, stealing his wallet and cell phone. The suspects are described as an unknown race male in his 20s with a shaved head, last seen wearing a black jacket and black pants and an unknown race female in her 20s, heavy set, last seen wearing a gray sweatshirt and black hat.

Valentin Corrales was convicted in 1990 for charges of sexual assault, lewdness with a child under 14 years of age. Once released from prison, he failed to register as a sex offender. Corrales is currently being investigated for sexually assaulting numerous female family members.

March 8, 2015

Around 6 p.m., the Subway at 750 Greenbrae Drive was robbed. Two males entered the store and demanded cash from the cash register, telling the clerk one of the suspects was armed with a gun. They fled northbound on foot with an unknown amount of cash; the clerk was not injured. The suspects are described as a possibly Hispanic male, early 20s, 5’10”, wearing a maroon sweatshirt, Chicago Bulls baseball cap, black sunglasses and a white male, early 20s, tall, wearing a black shirt, blue jeans, a baseball cap, and black sunglasses.

March 9, 2015

Around 3 a.m., officers responded to a medical incident in the area of Vista de Lago Drive. One of three individuals at the residence was suffering from a stab wound to the chest and was non-responsive. He was transported to Renown in critical condition. The others at the residence were transported to the Sparks Police Department and are cooperating with the investigation. No names and addresses are being released at this time. The investigation is ongoing.

Shortly before 9 a.m., Reno police received a report of a possible robbery and carjacking in the 2800 block of Northtowne Lane. On arrival, a 79 year old male was discovered to be the victim of a battery. REMSA treated the man for non-life threatening injuries. The victim had recently been befriended by a young male and female; the suspects battered the victim before taking off with his car. The car is described as a late 90s white Kia Sportage with California license plates. Jeremiah Smith was arrested on charges of battery with elderly enhancement. The female suspect is still at large and the investigation is ongoing.

Around 11:30 p.m., a resident in the 9000 block of Oakley Lane heard a disturbance in her garage where she discovered an elderly man on her property. The suspect was chased off the property by the woman’s husband, who followed him on foot before losing sight of him in the area of Glen Cove Court. Another neighborhood resident observed the suspect in a neighbor’s backyard and called police. David Clemens was arrested for home invasion and burglary.

There was a report of a commercial burglary on Lakeside Court. On arrival, officers discovered the door had been smashed in and property stolen. There are no suspects at this time.

March 12, 2015

SWAT and DEA served a search warrant on a possible drug house in the 7000 block of Crystal Shores Drive. Upon searching the residence, detectives found more than 340 grams of heroin and 32 grams of cocaine. Felipe Cortez and Heriberto Perez-Hernandez were arrested for possession of a controlled substance, as well as numerous other drug-related offenses.

Just after midnight, officers were called to the 1500 block of Chester Square with a report of a drunk driver. Samantha Smith was arrested for DUI and booked into Washoe County Jail around 1:45 a.m. Around 7:15 a.m., she informed authorities her four year old son was home alone and gave them a key to go check on him. They found the child barricaded in a room that was locked from the inside and the outside. Authorities believe he was alone for around seven hours with no means of escape, and no food and water. Smith has been charged with child endangerment and bail is set at $20,000, cash only.

There was a report of shots fired on Sutro Street. Shell casings were found but no injuries were reported. The investigation is ongoing.

March 13, 2015

Around 7 p.m. a robbery was reported at Paycheck Advance, 549 E. Prater Way. Officers were informed upon arrival that the suspect had fled to a nearby Save Mart, but could not be located. Officers later learned the suspect had shown the Paycheck Advance clerk a threatening note, but fled without any money. The suspect later robbed a nearby home. The suspect is described as a white male, early to mid 20s, heavy set, dark hair, wearing a black hooded sweatshirt and blue jeans.
