Historic Post Office Building Delivers Style in Downtown Reno

Details of the three-year restoration of the former downtown post office and historic federal building at 50 South Virginia have been under wraps — until now.

“We are proud to show the community our effort on preserving and re-establishing the Post Office as an iconic building in our community,” said Bernie Carter, managing partner of 50 South Virginia LLC.

The 50 South Virginia management team will debut their rehabilitated office and retail space with an open-house weekend featuring a walk-through for current and former U.S. Postal workers, an invitation-only benefit cocktail gala and guided public tours to showcase the preserved art deco building, designed in 1932 by architect Frederic DeLongchamps.

All proceeds will go to Renown Children’s Hospital.

U.S. Post Office employees, current and retired, may attend tours at 5:30 pm, 6 pm and 6:30 pm Friday, March 20, 2015. Donations will be accepted for Renown Children’s Hospital.

An invitation-only cocktail reception is set for 2 to 6 pm on Saturday, March 21, featuring 1930’s decor, photo and video booths and libations and hors d’oeuvres of the era. Events include a silent auction, guided tours, a presentation by Renown Children’s Hospital and special announcement from Carter. The cost to attend is $20 per person, with proceeds going to Renown Children’s Hospital.

Public tours are offered 10 am to 4 pm every 30 minutes on Sunday, March 22. A $20 donation will be collected at the door to support Renown Children’s Hospital.
