It’s not exactly earth-shattering news that lawyers can be expensive. The average hourly rate for a lawyer is somewhere around $284 per hour. Even with lawyers who charge less, it can still be too much for most people.

Many lawyers offer free consultations. This is a good way to get legal advice and a potential roadmap for your particular legal issue. Once you have an idea of what your legal needs are, there are many alternative services that can be used instead of hiring a lawyer, such as a legal document preparation service.

All document preparation services in Nevada must be licensed with the Nevada Secretary of State. They must pass a background check and be licensed and bonded. High Sierra Legal is fully licensed and bonded. I strongly caution people from going to a document preparer who does not have these requirements.

It may seem like a good deal at first, but in the end may end up costing you more as legal representation may be required.

Please be aware: Document preparation services are not allowed to give legal advice. I graduated from Lincoln Law School in Sacramento in 2007 and have worked as a law clerk at the District Court for the honorable Judge Perry. I was an extern at the Nevada Supreme Court, was a senate judiciary committee secretary at the Nevada Legislature and have worked in the legal community for over 15 years. I started High Sierra Legal three years ago as an alternative for people having to hire a costly lawyer for simple legal needs.

Many legal needs can be affordably reached with the help of these services offered by licensed and bonded document preparer. These services help empower people to handle their own legal situations and access the justice system for themselves.

The legal system can be intimidating and overwhelming for people who don’t work in it everyday. It shouldn’t be that way, it should be accessible for everyone regardless of circumstance, education or income.
