ELY — Photographers are invited to the Nevada Northern Railway, a National Historic Landmark, during the first two weekends in February for the annual Winter Steam Photo Spectacular.

It’s an opportunity to see an authentic steam train from the early 1900s — even more rare to see two original steam locomotives in action.

For two weekends, the steam locomotives and the historic railroad cars from the heyday of the railroad era will be on the original railroad tracks.

The Nevada Northern Railway’s engines are the original locomotives that were delivered to the railroad over a century ago. During the photo shoot, the steam locomotives will pull vintage freight and wooden passenger cars while crews will don period dress.

Many visiting photographers have taken advantage of rapidly changing weather systems. The event is touted as one of the most complete, authentic and cared for historic railroad sites. The site is home to an original depot and office building, engine house, freight station, working machine shop, and coal and water towers.

The Winter Steam Photo Spectacular takes place February 6-8, 2015 and 13-15 at the Nevada Northern Railway in Ely. Program costs for the weekend-long event start at $395. For more information, go to www.nnry.com.
