A 13-year-old male juvenile died yesterday after being pulled from an icy lake in south Reno. He and his 12-year-old friend had fallen into the lake while playing.

The 12-year-old was helped out of the lake by several people on shore, but the 13-year-old was unable to be pulled out and went below the water, according to the Reno Police Department.

The Reno Fire Department and other responders were dispatched and were able to eventually locate the boy under the water. He was transported to Renown in critical condition.

“It is with great sorrow that we have learned that the boy passed away at 6:30 p.m. (yesterday),” said Police Officer Tim Broadway.

Due to the age of the juvenile and that the investigation is ongoing. His name will not be released at this time.
