Whitney Peak Hotel is asking for new and gently used winter coats to benefit women and children in need through a partnership with the Committee to Aid Abused Women (CAAW).

CAAW is a  non-profit organization that provides free, confidential services and resources, including food, clothing and transportation, in an effort to bring an end to family violence in Washoe County.

The Whitney Peak Holiday Coat Drive runs from Saturday, Dec. 13, 2014 through Thursday, January 15, 2015. The hotel has drop-off bins in its lobby at 255 N. Virginia Street.

CAAW will distribute all collected outerwear to women and children from designated shelters and safe havens in Reno, where the need for warm coats is greatest this time of year. Various sizes are needed for women and their families, including ladies, teens, children and babies.

“As this will be the hotel’s first holiday season in Reno, we are delighted to give back to the community by running this month-long coat drive to benefit CAAW,” said Niki Gross, managing director of Whitney Peak Hotel. “It’s our small way of helping women and children who might not otherwise have warm outerwear to weather the … winter season.”
