Truckee Meadows Healthy Communities (TMHC) will host a one-day conference January 8, 2015 at the University of Nevada to begin conversations about building a culture of health in the region. The conference will bring together local and regional leaders from the public, private and non-profit sectors.
“The Truckee Meadows Healthy Communities conference will bring together individuals and groups who share a vision of enhancing the health of our region,” said Phyllis Freyer, chair of Truckee Meadows Healthy Communities.
First lady Kathleen Sandoval will serve as honorary chair during the conference, which is already near capacity with more than 200 planning to attend. Community leaders will hear from national speakers on the topic of building healthier communities and they will also hear about best practice projects from other communities.
Speakers include representatives from the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation Build Healthy Places Network and Stanford University School of Medicine. The goal of the conference is the start of an action plan that addresses local health disparities and further engages the community to implement projects that improve health and quality of life in the Truckee Meadows.
