The national non-profit media organization Next City is hosting its sixth annual Vanguard conference in Reno. Vanguard is an annual experiential urban leadership gathering of 40 of the best and brightest urban leaders under 40.
These leaders are working to improve cities, including urban planning, community development, entrepreneurship, government, transportation, sustainability, design, art and media. Through a competitive application, 40 applicants will be selected.
From May 6 – 8, 2015, they will be in Reno for a three-day series of presentations, workshops and neighborhood tours.
This year’s conference will include workshops, tours and conversations about the newest ideas in urban development, transportation, tech and politics. Participants will leave Reno inspired by new perspectives and more connected to the growing urbanist movement transforming our cities.
“We want the young urban leaders in the country to come and see Reno for what it is becoming, not what it has been,” said Mike Kazmierski, president and CEO of the Economic Development Authority of Western Nevada (EDAWN), the lead sponsor of the conference.
The Vanguard will be curated by Next City with participation from a host committee led by EDAWN and including representatives from local businesses, the Nevada Museum of Art, the University of Nevada, Burning Man and other organizations.
The conference will be headquartered at the Whitney Peak Hotel, the first non-gaming hotel to locate in downtown Reno and home to the worlds highest climbing wall.
