The Truckee Meadows Fire Protection District (TMFPD) and Goat Grazers have partnered to help residents recycle Christmas trees.
The goal of the tree recycle program is to keep old Christmas trees out of the landfill, reduce illegal dumping and reduce fire danger, according to a statement by TMFPD.
Residents may bring all natural, tinsel, ornament and hook-free trees to TMFPD fire stations throughout the area from Dec. 26 through Jan. 9, between the hours of 8 a.m. and 4 p.m.
Trees will be accepted at these stations:
- Station 13 at Stead
- Station 17 at Spanish Springs
- Station 18 at Cold Springs
- Station 35 at Verdi
- Station 37 at Hidden Valley
- Station 39 at Galena
- Station 310 at Bellevue and West Washoe Valley
Goat Grazers will recycle the used trees and reduce the fire threat caused by improper management of fire-prone vegetative materials. No additional material is being accepted.
Residents may contact Fire Marshal Amy Ray at 775-326-6005 or Vince Thomas with Goat Grazers at 775-530-6324 for more information.
