Veterans Day Parade scheduled for November 11 downtown

City of Reno administrative offices closed for Veterans Day

The City of Reno will host its annual Veterans Day Parade on Tuesday, November 11, 2014. The opening ceremonies will begin at 11 a.m. at the historic Virginia Street Bridge in downtown Reno.

The parade is scheduled to start at 11:11 a.m. and will move north on Virginia Street and end at the Fifth Street intersection.

This year’s theme is “150 Years of Liberty through Service.” The Grand Marshall is Army veteran Major John Riggs, who is a 1964 graduate of Reno High School. Mayor Bob Cashell is scheduled to speak prior to the start of the parade.

This will be the 16th consecutive year the City of Reno has hosted a Veterans Day Parade. There are 75 entries this year, including many local veterans associations, service groups, and high school bands.

Veterans Day evening event:

The Colin Ross Senior Music program will present a Veterans Day concert and workshop on Tuesday evening at the Neil Road Recreation Center (3925 Neil Road). Doors open at 5 p.m.; dinner will be served at 5:30 p.m. The concert/workshop is from 6:30 to 8 p.m.

Admission is free for veterans (with a VA card) and a guest; $5 for non-veterans. Pre-registration, which can be done by calling 334-2262, is recommended.

City of Reno offices closed:

The City of Reno administrative offices at Reno City Hall will be closed in observance of Veterans Day.
