During the event, University faculty and students will encourage students to get excited about higher education. All students will receive a Nevada T-shirt provided by the Nevada Wolf Shop which they will wear during the assembly.
“We are so fortunate to work with the University of Nevada, Reno to provide our students the motivation and inspiration to set goals on going to college,” Clayton Principal Bruce Meissner said. “Through inspirational speeches from students, professors, coaches and administrators, our students are learning what it takes to prepare themselves for college as well as what opportunities are available locally.”
WHAT: The University will participate in a special pep rally assembly for Clayton’s 6th through 8th-grade students. The event is intended to create enthusiasm for learning and education for students within the Washoe County School District.
WHY: “Every student leaves the assembly a Wolf Pack fan but most importantly, every student leaves the assembly wanting to go to college,” Meissner said. “The momentum provided by the University’s students and staff provides the catalyst for our student to ‘step-up’ as they are entering the most critical learning period of their adolescence.”
WHO: Clayton Assistant Principal Mark Scozzafava will lead the student assembly. He will introduce the University’s guest speakers including Nevada women’s basketball coach Jane Albright, Associated Students of the University of Nevada Speaker of the Student Senate Caden Fabbi and Associate Dean of Students Marcelo Vazquez. Student athletes, cheerleaders and Nevada mascots will also be in attendance. To kick things off the Nevada mascot and the Clayton mascot will have a dance-off at the start of the assembly.
WHEN: 8-9 a.m., Friday, Oct. 24.
WHERE: Archie Clayton Pre-AP Academy, 1295 Wyoming Ave., Reno.
MEDIA PARKING: The event will be held in the school’s gymnasium. Media are encouraged to park in the school’s east parking lot off Wyoming Avenue. All guests are asked to enter through the main entrance of the school.
