CARSON CITY, Nev. — After an extensive search among top tourism marketing professionals, TravelNevada, the state Division on Tourism, has hired Greg Fine of Reno to fill its marketing director position.

Fine is a native Nevadan with 22 years of marketing experience in the Reno-Tahoe region. He most recently owned and operated Ding Marketing Communications Inc., an award-winning agency in Reno that led the strategic marketing and brand direction for more than 65 regional companies, including Greater Nevada Credit Union and the Incline Village/Crystal Bay Visitors Authority. His firm created consumer and convention and trade show campaign work for the Reno-Sparks Convention and Visitors Authority (RSCVA), one of Nevada’s lead visitor bureaus, and produced and designed a number of meetings and travel planners, including the state’s annual visitor guide.

“TravelNevada is the lead marketing agency for the state of Nevada, so the position of marketing director was one that we took our time to fill, searching exhaustively for the most qualified and most passionate professional,” Claudia Vecchio, director for the Nevada Department of Tourism and Cultural Affairs, said. “Greg fit the bill perfectly, bringing a passion for Nevada, extensive expertise in brand management, and an understanding of how to build upon our brand, ‘A World Within, A State Apart.’”

Fine earned a bachelor’s degree in journalism with an emphasis on advertising from the University of Nevada, Reno, and served as publicist for Harrah’s Casino Resort and the RSCVA. He worked as copywriter for the Art Associates Advertising & Design, and the San Francisco Chronicle and San Francisco Examiner before opening his own strategic marketing agencies in Reno.

“When I heard Nevada’s new brand platform, I knew that Nevada’s big picture had finally been rightly painted. To be able to share that essential Nevada story with visitors is more of a privilege than a job,” Fine said. “I’ve been involved with selling the state and key regions within Nevada since the beginning of my marketing career nearly 20-plus years ago, and I am looking forward to continuing that mission in a long-term role with TravelNevada.”

The marketing department of TravelNevada oversees all advertising and marketing, as well as the agency’s website and research departments. Since Fine joined the agency, the department has relaunched a more socially interactive website as part of its efforts to increase its appeal to a millennial audience. In addition, Fine is committed to strengthening TravelNevada’s relationships with regional rural and urban partners, as well as introducing a number of marketing programs aimed at growing Nevada’s tourism base.

Fine is a founding member of the K-8 Wellness Initiative, serves in an advisory role to Keep Truckee Meadows Beautiful, and sits on the board of the Girl Scouts of the Sierra Nevada. He is also a member of the Northern Nevada Executive Council, the American Marketing Association, and Western Industrial Nevada. He enjoys exploring the Sierra Nevada on his mountain bike in the summer and on skis in the winter. Fine lives in Reno with his wife, Shelli, and their two daughters.
