thinkfirst-300x254-7305803-6092817ThinkFirst of Northern Nevada is a non-profit organization dedicated to the prevention of brain and spinal cord injuries among children and teens through local educational programs and partnerships.

ThinkFirst is holding its inaugural golf tournament on Saturday, September 20 at Rosewood Lakes Golf Course. The tournament is a four-person scramble format which includes warm-up balls for the driving range prior to the tournament’s start at 8:30 a.m., 18-holes of golf with a cart, and lunch for the players at a cost of $100 per person, with all proceeds from the tournament to benefit ThinkFirst of Northern Nevada.

If you do not play or are unable to attend, businesses and residents of the Truckee Meadows can sponsor a hole for $150. To register for the tournament or for hole sponsorship information, contact ThinkFirst of Northern Nevada’s Marketing Manager, Cheryl Price, at 775-789-3986 or [email protected].

Adding to the community outreach efforts inside northern Nevada and California schools, ThinkFirst also gives away hundreds of helmets each year to try and keep kids safe. And because nearly a half–million traumatic brain injuries are treated in hospital emergency rooms annually, the hope is that by educating kids and teens, they will turn into educated adults, spawning generations of helmet-safe citizens across the country.

“We would be honored if community members join us at our inaugural golf tournament and support this worthy cause to help protect what really is the key to our future — our children,” Dr. Lali Sekho, founder of the local ThinkFirst chapter in 2011, said.

The nationwide network of ThinkFirst Chapters provides powerful, thought-provoking, upbeat educational programs to students of all ages. Each locally established chapter is sponsored by a neurosurgeon committed to public education and injury prevention. Dr. Lali Sekhon started the local chapter of ThinkFirst in 2011, and ThinkFirst of Northern Nevada was acquired by Sierra Neurosurgery Group in 2013. Learn more at www.thinkfirstnevada.org.
