School of Medicine announces free October clinic dates

block_n-8885501-1535182The University of Nevada School of Medicine’s free Student Outreach Clinics for October are scheduled for the following dates: A women’s clinic will be held Oct. 4 from 8 a.m. to noon, a geriatrics clinic is scheduled for Oct. 11 from 8 a.m. to noon, a general clinic will be held on Oct. 18 from 8 a.m. to noon and a children’s clinic is scheduled for Oct. 21 from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.

The geriatrics clinic serves those 55 and older and provides services including a pharmacist’s review of medications, cognitive impairment screening, physicals focusing on cardiology and pulmonology and some immunizations. Appointments may be made for the geriatric clinic only by calling Diane at (775)682-8470.

Clinics are held at the School of Medicine’s Family Medicine Center, located on the University of Nevada, Reno campus north of Mackay Stadium off of North Virginia Street. Take RTC bus route 7 to North Virginia Street or the free Sierra Spirit bus.

Student Outreach Clinics are a free service provided to the medically uninsured population within the community. Clinics offer physicals for work or school, EKGs, blood pressure monitoring, referrals and selected lab services at discounted fees.

Under the direct supervision of licensed faculty and community physicians, medical students from the University of Nevada School of Medicine offer monthly Student Outreach Clinics providing free care to the medically uninsured. Patients are seen on a first come, first served basis with no appointment necessary.  Early arrival is recommended. Spanish translators are available at all clinics.
