Classes are on Fridays, 9:30 a.m. to noon, now through October 17. The course can be offered in both English and Spanish.

There are still openings for the class, and instructor Tammy Sutton explained, “It is ok if you missed the first class. Everyone is welcome.”

This 6 week self-management class was developed at Stanford University and offers anyone living with diabetes – or anyone living with or caring for someone with diabetes – the tools and skills to successfully manage their condition.

Skills covered include healthy eating, physical activity, stress management, meal planning, working with your health care provider, reading food labels, and more.

Tammy Sutton explained, “The purpose of this class is to help people with diabetes feel better, do the things they want to do and take control of their health. It is also very useful for anyone who is pre-diabetic or giving care to someone with diabetes.”

Healthy Communities’ director Christy McGill noted that ” we want to express gratitude to Silver Springs-Stagecoach Hospital District for a scholarship that funded specialized training for Tammy through Stanford University’s Chronic Disease Self-Management Program.

Now this great opportunity to help people take charge of their own health is coming to many communities in our area.”

There are 20 spaces available to anyone in the region who’d like to take the class, contact Tammy at 775-301-8543 to reserve your space.
