Members of Teamsters Local 533 failed to ratify an agreement with their employer, MV Transportation Sunday. MV Transportation employs the drivers, mechanics and dispatchers for RTC RIDE.
RTC has not been a part of the negotiations. While a tentative agreement was reached on July 31, members did not ratify the proposed contract as recommended by union leadership, according to MV Transportation.
A disruption in service is not anticipated as a result of the agreement not being ratified. Currently, RTC RIDE is operating on schedule. However, riders should be prepared in the event of a service disruption.
RTC encourages riders to make alternative transportation plans for any critical appointments. Riders should continue to monitor local media, RTC’s Facebook and Twitter pages and the Hot Topics section of http://www.rtcwashoe.com.
RTC expects MV Transportation and the union to continue negotiations in good faith with the assistance of the Federal Mediator. RTC is hopeful an agreement is reached soon.
RTC ACCESS, the paratransit service for those who qualify under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), is not operated by MV Transportation. RTC ACCESS will continue operating normally.
