September is Hunger Action Month and for the fourth year in a row, Run on Tuna will collect cans of tuna fish throughout the month to donate to Food Bank of Northern Nevada. This year’s goal is 10,000 cans of tuna.

Last year Run on Tuna collected 8,739 cans of tuna with the help of many people in our community, including Michelle Sturge from Chase International, who collected over 2000 cans.

“Last year, the tuna became a good natured joke as my goal was to build The Great Wall of Tuna,” says Sturge. “This year I’m hoping to collect even more cans and my CFO and broker have both agreed that I can build the wall in our lobby. I believe that will bring interest to every client and vendor who walks in our front door.”

Run on Tuna will start collecting cans September 1 and on September 6 will really kick things into gear with its second annual giant garage sale where shoppers can trade cans of tuna for Run on Tuna Bucks or buy items with cash. All cash will be used to purchase cans of tuna.

Joceyln Lantrip, marketing director for the Food Bank of Northern Nevada says “Every year we are shocked and delighted at the amount of tuna that we are able to distribute from this one event! The Run on Tuna drive is one of the highlights of the Hunger Action Month calendar every September.”

Run on Tuna is the brain-child of De De Rosene, who has collected over 20,000 cans of tuna fish since 2011.

To donate cans of tuna, please call or email De De Rosene at 775.225.0814 or [email protected].

To donate funds to be used solely for the purchase of cans of tuna, make a secure payment through PayPal at http://tinyurl.com/9b3c4sm or if you have a PayPal account you can send the payment via PayPal to [email protected].

The Run on Tuna Garage Sale is Saturday, September 6th from 7am to 2pm at 350 Sunnyside Drive, Reno. No early birds please.
