The Regional Transportation Commission of Washoe County is advising drivers that 2nd Street near Renown Regional Medical Center will close to all eastbound traffic beginning Wednesday, August 20, 2014.

One lane for westbound traffic will remain open. The eastbound closure will be from Kirman Avenue to Kietzke Lane. Traffic will be detoured on to Mill Street.

Pavement reconstruction is underway on E. 2nd Street, which will result in smoother travel. Work is also being done to complete sidewalks, making the area more accessible to pedestrians – currently, there are gaps in the sidewalks.

While the sidewalk will remain open on at least one side of the road throughout the project, there will be sidewalk closures. Flaggers will be available to assist pedestrians.

Businesses in the area, including Subway and Opa Cafe, will remain open and accessible throughout the project. Work is scheduled to be completed in October, and roadwork will primarily occur during daylight hours. This is a fuel-tax funded $800,000 project.

In partnership with the Truckee Meadows Water Authority, a water main will also be replaced on 2nd Street near Giroux Street.

In early September it will be necessary to temporarily turn off water for some nearby customers at night. Crews will notify those affected in advance.
