Date:

in-300x114-6109837-5577709The Nevada Statewide Maternal Child Health Coalition and Immunize Nevada team up to offer Nevadans the opportunity to see The Raising of America, a documentary on child health and development.

The Nevada Statewide Maternal Child Health Coalition and Immunize Nevada present the public a chance to view key parts of the forthcoming documentary series The Raising of America Early Childhood and the Future of our Nation. The series reframes the way we look at early child health and development and how a strong start not only leads to better individual life outcomes (learning, earning and physical and mental health) but also to a healthier, safer, better educated, more prosperous and equitable nation.

How is it that children in the U.S. have worse outcomes on most measures of health, education and well-being than other rich nations? Why do we as a nation allow our most vulnerable children to fall so much further behind? This and other topics will be explored during this revealing documentary, which provides a look at the science of early childhood development.

The opening episode, The Raising of America will be followed by a discussion with local experts and then a showing of Once Upon A Time: When Childcare for All Wasn’t Just a Fairytale, a supporting episode showing our path from a more inclusive nation to today’s “you’re-on-your-own” society.

This event is presented by Immunize Nevada and The Nevada Statewide Maternal Child Health Coalition and is open to the public. Parents, public health professionals, medical students, physicians and anyone wanting to learn about early child development is welcome to attend at no cost.

The free event is Wednesday, June 25, from 5:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. The documentary will be shown in the Center for Molecular Medicine, Room 111, at the University of Nevada, 1664 North Virginia Street (North End of UNR Campus), in Reno. Pre-registration is recommended due to limited space. To register visit http://raisingofamerica-mchcoalition.eventbrite.com. To learn more about the documentary series click here.

Immunize Nevada exists to support community partners to successfully implement effective immunization efforts throughout Nevada; advocate for, inform and educate about the need for and benefits of vaccines; and facilitate greater collaboration statewide to achieve Nevada’s immunization priorities.
