Multi-use path opening along Truckee River in Sparks

Date:

RTC NEWS — The Regional Transportation Commission of Washoe County is announcing the reopening of the multi-use path along the Truckee River in Sparks, Nevada. On Monday, June 30, crews plan to reopen the Truckee River Trail through Sparks from Cottonwood Park to Larkin Circle. This section of the trail was closed in March 2013 to accommodate construction of the Veterans Memorial Bridge over the Truckee River and the Sparks Boulevard/Greg Street improvements included within phase one of RTC’s SouthEast Connector project.

This path is a popular and scenic route for bicyclists, walkers and runners. The section of the path that traverses under the newly constructed Veterans Memorial Bridge has been repaved and lighting has been installed under the bridge for safety. New lighting was also installed near the Truckee River Trail’s new connection to Greg Street.

Also being re-opened is the multi-use path along the west side of Sparks Boulevard from I-80 to Greg Street, which enables pedestrians and bicyclists to connect to the Outlets at Legends and Sparks Marina.

The re-opening of the paths is the result of the first phase of the SouthEast Connector project nearing completion. The 5.5 mile SouthEast Connect project will be built in two phases, with the new roadway anticipated to be completed in late 2016 or early 2017.

When completed, the SouthEast Connector will also feature a multi-use path paralleling the new roadway from South Meadows Parkway north to Sparks Boulevard, providing a connection with existing path networks in south Reno and Sparks. The new 10-foot wide paved path will provide incredible views of the cityscape and wetlands. It is designed to
safely accommodate pedestrians and bicyclists while they enjoy the region’s natural beauty.
