davidwise_headshot_teamusa2014-5132526-6174962BBBSNN NEWS — Local Olympic Champion David Wise will play in a poker tournament on Friday, June 6, benefitting Big Brothers Big Sisters of Northern Nevada (BBBSNN). The tournament, hosted by the BBBSNN Young Professionals Committee, is held at Grand Sierra Resort and costs $75 to buy in for the $1,000 grand prize.

“I am really proud to support an organization that does so much for kids,” Wise said. “I’m looking forward to a fun evening for a great cause and hope to see a large turnout of young professionals willing to give back to the community.”

The reigning men’s ski half pipe world champion’s incredible Olympic performance in the midst of challenging conditions, earned him international recognition and landed him on the TODAY Show, The Ellen DeGeneres Show and FOX News.

“We are really lucky to have such a dedicated group of young men and women who volunteer their time, talents and energy to support our cause through fundraisers like this tournament,” Liza Maupin, BBBSNN CEO, said. “It also helps us draw awareness to the need for volunteer Big Brothers and Big Sisters to mentor children facing adversity in our community.”

The poker tournament was last held in 2012 and raised more than $5,000 for BBBSNN, which goes directly back into the community to making and support mentoring relationships between caring adult mentors and at-risk youth. This year’s tournament is expected to surpass that goal.

“For us, it’s a really fun way to give back to an organization that greatly improves our community,” Shaun O’Harra, YPC member said.

Registration begins at 6 p.m. and the No Limit Texas Holdem tournament starts at 7 p.m. The event will also include raffle prizes, and participants who RSVP to [email protected] will receive three free raffle tickets at the event
