Nevada 150 events held throughout May

NEVADA 150 NEWS — Many events are scheduled throughout the Silver State in the month of May. These Nevada 150 events help celebrate all things Nevada and bring awareness to the state’s 150th Anniversary of Statehood. The following are events held between May 17 and May 31.

The Discover GOLD in Dayton Again will take place on May 17 from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. in Old Town Dayton. Time travel back to the 19th century with many activities, live music, dancing and plenty of food. For more information, visit www.daytonnvhistory.org or call 775-246-3527.

On May 17 from 6 to 9 p.m. the Reno Philharmonic Gala, “Home Means Nevada” will take place at the Downtown Reno Ballroom. This event celebrates Nevada’s Sesquicentennial with an annual fundraising gala event. The event includes a reception, dinner, program and performances with special honorees. Join the Historic Reno Preservation Society for the Roads and Rails, Historic Fourth Street Walking Tour on Saturday May 17 at 10 a.m. in Reno. The Biggest Little 5K Birthday Run will take place on Saturday, May 17 at 10 a.m. in Downtown Reno. It’s time to put on your favorite birthday attire, tutus and tiaras and help us celebrate Reno’s birthday month with a special 5k supporting the Riverwalk District’s beautification program. Walkers and Runners of all levels, families, children and runners with dogs as well as those wearing spirited costumes are encouraged to participate in the celebration. Join the Historic Reno Preservation Society (HRPS) for the Mid-Century Modern Walking Tour on Tuesday May 20 at 3 p.m. in Reno. The Nevada Sesquicentennial Stamp Unveiling Ceremony will take place on May 29 at 11 a.m. at The Smith Center for Performing Arts in Las Vegas. The United States Postal Service and the Nevada Sesquicentennial Commission invite the public for the unveiling of the Nevada Sesquicentennial commemorative stamp. On May 30 at 5 p.m. at the Nevada State Museum in Las Vegas the Every Age is Information Age: 150 Years of Communication in Nevada Exhibit Reception will take place. The Surveys of the California-Nevada Boundary Exhibit Open House will take place on May 31 from 4 to 6 p.m. at the Mineral County Museum. This event will celebrate the dispute between the two states over many years about the establishment of territory. The exhibit will display old maps depicting how Aurora was shown in California and then in Nevada. This event is open to the public and will provide refreshments for all guests who attend.
