No registration is required for patients. It is a first come, first served event for residents of all ages in the Lyon, Storey and Mineral regions.

The event is organized through Healthy Communities Coalition of Lyon and Storey, a regional nonprofit which partners with dozens of groups and hundreds of individual volunteers to bring MORE’s free medical, vision, dental, and behavioral health services to rural residents. Director Christy McGill explained that two of the goals for this year’s MORE are, “to offer a number of alternatives for addressing pain and for boosting and maintaining wellness, both mentally and physically.”

Keeping those goals in mind, this year’s event includes the following services: free acupuncture, general exams, breast exams, relining of dentures, dental services such as exams, fillings and extractions as time permits, HIV and sexually transmitted disease (STD) tests, STD prevention kits, nutrition and fitness counseling, mental health and substance abuse assessments and referral to treatment, early childhood developmental screening with Nevada Early Intervention Services, introduction to local arts and peer-to-peer support and volunteer groups, preventative measures such as vaccines, and connections to groups such as rural community health nursing that offer affordable testing and treatment for various issues, and free equipment that helps prevent injury, such as bicycle helmets, plus vision screening and a limited number of eye glasses.

Vaccines offered at MORE include Tdap, pneumonia, and Hep A and B. Other vaccines include free doses of Zostavax, the shingles vaccine, for those ages 60 years-of-age and older. Nurses from Carson City Health and Human Services report that they have at least 26 doses of the normally very expensive vaccine on hand for the event.

The event’s location is at Silver Stage High School, 3755 West Spruce Street, in Silver Springs, Nevada. The date and time are Saturday June 7, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Under-insured people of all ages in the Lyon, Storey and Mineral regions are welcome. No registration is required. For more information call 775-350-4597.

Both general support volunteers and volunteer health care professionals are also needed and welcomed. Dentists, nurses, doctors, and chiropractors are especially needed. Please call 775-350-4597 if you would like to register as a volunteer .

The MORE event will also include a health and wellness information fair with information about expanded Medicaid and other healthcare access programs, employment training/placement groups, community groups, farm workers resources, peer-to-peer support groups and social services.
