City officials to pedal in mayoral challenge bike ride tomorrow

CITY OF RENO NEWS–As part of Bike to Work, School and Fun Week, happening now through May 16, 2014 throughout the Truckee Meadows, the Mayoral Challenge Ride will take place Thursday, May 15 starting at 9 a.m. The public is encouraged to ride along, helping promote the many benefits bicycling has on our health and environment.

Officials from the City of Reno, City of Sparks and Washoe County will pedal in a leisurely ride from Sparks City Hall to the Terry Lee Wells Nevada Discovery Museum in downtown Reno. The ride will end at approximately 10:30 a.m.

Shortly after a nutrition and hydration break at The Discovery, the day’s events will continue with the Ride for Reading sponsored by the Washoe County School District. At 11 a.m., officials will ride their bikes to Echo Loder Elementary School to drop off books for the students, arriving at about 11:30 a.m. They will be escorted by a motorcade from Sparks Police Department, Reno Police Department, WCSD Police Department and the Washoe County Sheriff’s Office.

Tomorrow, at the Reno City Council meeting on the first floor of City Hall starting at noon, there will be a proclamation declaring the month of May 2014 as National Bike and Bicycle Safety Month and the week of May 10-16 as Bike to Work, School and Fun Week.
