44th annual Jim Butler Days Memorial Day celebration in Tonopah

This Memorial Day weekend join the town of Tonopah in honoring the historic past of Jim Butler Days. Days was responsible for the significant find in May 1900 that inaugurated Nevada’s early 20th Century gold and silver boom. The Tonopah Historic Mining Park will be open May 24 and 25 to show visitors how it was to work in a turn-of-the century mine.

Special Events:

Main Street Parade:
Friday, May 24/ 10am to 12 pm
Stop by Main Street to watch the parade that honors Jim Butler Days.

Nevada State Mining Championships:
Saturday, May 25/ 10 am
Located at the Tonopah Historic Mining Park, immediately following the parade, events including double and single jack drilling, individual and team mucking, spike driving, timber toss, timber sawing and the newest event, blindfolded wheelbarrow obstacle course.

Blacksmithing:
Friday May 24/ 8am to 5pm
Saturday May 25/ 8am to 1pm
Adults can sign up in advance for the art class. Students will learn to light and work with coal forge to heat and shape metal. Classes are designed to meet student’s skill level. Class is intended for adults and youth are invited to participate with adult supervision.
