DPBH NEWS RELEASE

CARSON CITY – The Division of Public and Behavioral Health (DPBH) has announced the launch of the Nevada Health Statistics Portal, a web-based health statistics query system. The new site is available to anyone seeking statistics on public health topics in Nevada and offers readily available and easily accessible information related to birth, death and demographic statistics. A cancer statistics query is currently in the works, and additional datasets and features will be added over time.

The health statistics portal is especially helpful to grant writers, health researchers and anyone in the public who would like to learn about demographics, births and deaths in Nevada. Prior to the web-based query system, a person wanting statistics from DPBH had to make a special request to be fulfilled by an analyst or glean the information from an existing report. Now, many statistical needs can be satisfied simply by going to the site and configuring a query.

“The portal empowers all Nevadans to explore health topics on their own by enabling them to customize a query according to their specific need and access the statistical results directly and immediately. The system presents statistics in tabular, graphical and map form, so users can choose the representation that works best for them,” explained Jay Kvam, chief biostatistician. “The Division is excited to make this tool available to the public in a way that delivers information quickly and accurately and looks forward to developing and expanding its offerings even further in time.”

“This highly capable, interactive—yet simple—system helps healthcare providers, public health professionals, policymakers, the media and the public obtain quick and reliable answers,” said Ihsan Azzam, state medical epidemiologist.

To access the portal, go to http://statistics.health.nv.gov. To learn more about the portal, visit the site’s “About” page, which describes the system and suggests how to get started.

For more information about the portal, contact Kvam by telephone, (775) 684-4161, or email, [email protected]. For more information about the Division of Public and Behavioral Health, go to http://www.health.nv.gov.
