National expert on arts in the classroom presents to educators

562954_519007171458911_1098900270_n-8533797-9177254SIERRA ARTS FOUNDATION NEWS RELEASE – In partnership with the Kennedy Center’s Partners in Education program, Sierra Arts Foundation and Washoe County School District are pleased to host Judy Thibault Klevins, a national expert on Arts Integration in the classroom, on April 29 and 30. “Laying A Foundation: Defining Arts Integration,” held on April 29, is designed for WCSD administrators, implementation specialists, instructional coaches, and deans and will uncover the characteristics of quality integration. Teachers and counselors for grades 2-8 and anyone interested in becoming a Sierra Arts Teaching Artist are welcome to continue the conversation on the April 30 with “Drama and Language Arts” where participants will learn a telling/writing process that helps students experience another’s life.

“Laying A Foundation” will be held in the Sierra Room at Matley Lane Facilities, 1150 Matley Lane, in Reno, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. “Drama and Language Arts” is 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at McKinley Arts & Culture Center, 925 Riverside Drive, in Reno with a 40 person maximum. Judy Thibault Klevins is a Kennedy Center Teaching Artist who has directed hundreds of plays and projects with people who range in age from six to ninety-two. As a high school theater teacher, she guided her students in the creation of award-winning original shows and the athletic boosters designated her as Coach of the Year. Ms. Klevins served as the Arts Education Specialist in Arlington Public Schools, Virginia. Currently, Judy travels the country presenting arts integration workshops and seminars. Her latest undertaking is training communities to lead her “Swapping Stories” intergenerational/intercultural story exchange project. Judy’s play, “Expectations,” had a first reading at the Hermitage Artist Retreat in Florida where she was a Fellow.

Miriam Hodgman is originally from San Francisco. She previously was the communications coordinator for the largest hunger-relief organization in Sonoma County, California. She has a bachelor’s degree in American history, with a minor in American Indian studies, from San Francisco State University, and has a master’s degree in public administration from Sonoma State University. She enjoys training a variety of martial arts.
