Atlantis Casino Resort Spa recycles over 7 miles of waste

By ThisIsReno

ATLANTIS NEWS RELEASE

atlantisAtlantis Casino Resort Spa is committed to reducing its carbon footprint and has implemented a number of energy-saving processes to reduce, reuse and recycle.

According to Reno’s Waste Management, over the past year, Atlantis has:

  • Compacted 9,125 yards of garbage (if it weren’t compacted, it would amount to 27,375 yards)
  • Recycled 2,040 yards of single stream recycling
  • Recycled 1,560 yards of compost

To put that into perspective, Atlantis, through Waste Management, has compacted or recycled 12,725 yards of waste, which is over seven miles. That’s equivalent to driving from Atlantis’ location on South Virginia Street to just north of the University of Nevada, Reno campus on North Virginia Street.

In addition, as a result of energy saving efforts throughout the property, Atlantis has saved over 6 million kilowatts/hour since 2005. Over the next five years, Atlantis will reduce its CO2 output by 22,785,211 tons and expects to save an additional average of 350,000 kilowatts/year.

This is all on the heels of the installation of two car-charging stations in January.

To celebrate Earth Day, Spa Atlantis has partnered with Black Rock Mud just outside Gerlach to offer a Mudpot – a face mask containing the latest mud harvested from the Black Rock Desert. Mudpot is packaged in a plantable box embedded with a variety of non-invasive wildflower seeds desirable for northern Nevada’s high desert. When the box is planted, the paper naturally recycles and wildflowers will bloom. The product is 100 percent natural, with no additives, fillers or conditioners, and the farm is fully sustainable, using power solely from wind, solar and geothermal sources.
