JUNIOR LEAGUE OF RENO NEWS RELEASE – The Junior League of Reno hosts its third-annual “Juleps, Jockeys & Jazz” fundraising event on Saturday, May 3 at The Grove from noon to 5:00 p.m. The celebrated fundraiser brings community members together to support initiatives that support the League’s mission of developing the potential of women and children.
“Our mission is to develop impactful programs in our community that support the healthy development of women and children,” said Kerry Brennan-Novak, president of the League. “Derby Day is an opportunity to raise funds for our cause areas so we can continue to volunteer our time and provide new opportunities for the populations we support.”
A fast‐paced and high-fashion fundraiser, Junior League of Reno’s “Juleps, Jockeys & Jazz: Derby Day” attracts over 300 local leaders and community-minded attendees. This year’s event features a live showing of the 140th running of the Kentucky Derby along with a silent auction, horse raffle, and contest for the best Derby hat. Guests will enjoy classic mint juleps, a gracious southern-style luncheon fare and live jazz music.
Celebrating its 35th anniversary, the Junior of League of Reno is a not‐for‐profit organization of women committed to promoting volunteerism, developing the potential of women and improving our community. This year’s proceeds will directly impact the Junior League of Reno’s “Healthy for All” projects in the community. The League actively educates, advocates, and provides programming focused around three community-based issue areas: ending human trafficking, increasing accessibility for children with disabilities and improving access to and education about nutrition to fight childhood obesity.
Tickets are now on sale for the annual fundraiser held at The Grove. Individual tickets are $65 and table sponsorships begin at $1,000. Tickets can be purchased online at www.jlreno.org, or by calling 775-826-0445.
Founded in 1978, the Junior League of Reno, a 501(c) 3 not-for-profit organization, has a rich history of community involvement. Membership is comprised of a diverse group of female volunteers committed to building a better community through education, advocacy and volunteerism. Members are directly involved in local community projects intended to positively impact women and children. Current projects include the Dick Taylor Universally Accessible Playground, Nevada Discovery Museum, and Kids in the Kitchen. The League also supports local non-profit organizations through grants and service project.
