School of Medicine’s Wellness and Weight Management Clinic celebrates its 10th year

image001-150x150-8815953-8512162The University of Nevada School of Medicine’s Wellness and Weight Management Clinic, a medically-supervised clinic specializing in lifestyle changes to ensure long-term weight-loss, announced that it has grown to support 200 patients.

Ten percent of those patients have lost 80 to100 pounds and maintained the weight-loss, while discontinuing numerous medications.
Two registered dietician-directed weight-loss program options, Health Management Resources and Energy-Balance, empower patients to lose significant amounts of weight and ensure that the weight-loss is maintained in the long term.
Karmella Thomas, RD and clinic coordinator, said that in the confusing maze of media and web-based nutrition misinformation, a registered dietician is crucial for deciphering evidence-based nutrition from medical misinformation.
“We are fortunate to provide the Health Management Resources program which is the most successful evidenced-based medical weight-loss program,” she said. “In addition, our clinic’s registered dieticians have been integral in improving the quality of life for 200 patients’ lives.
“As a result of the overwhelming patient weight-loss successes, we are seeing a significant increase in the number of individuals calling for our services. Patients are learning and internalizing a new skill set with the focus targeted toward lifestyle changes that secure permanent weight-loss.”
