MAKE-A-WISH NEWS RELEASE
Share in the power of a wish® at Waffles & Wishes on Tuesday, March 25, from 7 to 9:30 a.m. at Atlantis Casino Resort Spa. In its fourth year, Make-A-Wish’s® Waffles & Wishes raises money to grant wishes for children with life-threatening medical conditions.
During the event, guests will have the opportunity to bid on silent auction items, enjoy breakfast and listen to heartwarming stories from past wish children and their families. At each Waffles & Wishes event, Make-A-Wish reveals a wish live to an unsuspecting child. Last year’s wish child, Isaac, will be in attendance, and will share his wish experience – a family road trip through California.
First Lady Kathleen Sandoval will help grant the wish of this year’s recipient, Lillian, 6, who will be crowned princess for the day, followed by a send-off to a famous theme park in Florida. The theme of this year’s event is youth philanthropy. The wishes highlighted were adopted by guest speaker Ashley Taylor, who has been involved in Make-A-Wish since her sophomore year in high school. She had raised enough funds to grant four wishes and recently founded the Youth Leadership Committee in the hopes of igniting a love of philanthropy in other local youth.
Make-A-Wish is hoping to raise enough funds at the event to be able to grant at least 15 of the more than 40 wishes the organization expects to grant in northern Nevada this year. The average cash cost of a wish granted is $5,000. Many wishes also receive generous backing of local and national sponsors through in-kind support.
More than 500 guests and business sponsors are expected to attend Waffles & Wishes. Admission is free, but guest are encouraged to donate at the event and participate in the silent auction. Pre-registration is required for the event, and reservations may be made by calling 775-826-8008.
