header-logo-4363305-6554876Twenty residents will receive certificates of completion from the Reno Citizens Institute (RCI) program during the March 26 Reno City Council meeting.

During the past eight weeks the residents have spent their Tuesday evenings learning how their local government works through hands-on demonstrations and interactive exercises. Participants learned how decisions are made, how city funds are allocated and how city departments interact.

RCI provides an inside look at city programs, services, challenges and issues. Among other exercises, participants toured the 911 dispatch center, served on a mock planning commission meeting, designed a potential city park and saw a K9 presentation.

The program schedule includes sessions with the City Manager’s Office; Human Resources; Finance; Communications and Technology; Parks, Recreation and Community Services; Reno Fire Department; City Attorney’s Office; Municipal Court; Reno Police Department; Public Works and Community Development.

The graduates are Diane Arkell, Bill Baker, Dan Bartholomew, Jessica Cunningham, Adam Czajkowski, Mike Davidson, Stan Dowdy, Ruth Gaw, Karl Hall, Amber Harmon, Katherine Hoffman, Lindsay Hughey, Stephen Hughey, Ashley Kaiser, Marsy Kupfersmith, Julieta Marquez, Justin Norton, Rita Sloan, Sarah Sloan and Jeffrey Varkonyi. The class consisted of leaders in our community, students, retirees, attorneys and business owners.
