Sparks Justice Court recruitment for new justice of the peace ends Tuesday

washoecountydistricthealthdeptlogo-150x150-3107554-3200490Due to the early retirement of Judge Susan Deriso, the Board of Washoe County Commissioners will appoint a temporary justice of the peace to fill her seat through the end of 2014 and will place the vacancy on the November 2014 ballot to elect someone to fulfill the remaining four years of Deriso’s term beginning January 2015.

Interested applicants can view the Sparks Justice of the Peace vacancy online to apply for the position. A justice of the peace must be a qualified elector of the county and have never been removed or retired from any judicial office by the commission on judicial discipline. A high school diploma or its equivalent is required, and previous experience as a hearing officer or arbitrator is highly desirable.

Applicants must submit a cover letter and comprehensive resume by midnight on Tuesday, Jan. 28. Electronic submittals are strongly preferred, and the applications of all those qualified will be presented to a sub-committee of the Board of County Commissioners who will compile an approved list of candidates that will be submitted to the Board for consideration.

The final interview/selection process is anticipated to take place at the Feb. 11 meeting of the Board of County Commissioners. The selection process will be in accordance with Nevada’s Open Meeting/Public Records Law. All submitted materials will be kept confidential until the candidate finalists have been determined. The current annual salary for the position is $143,520.
