CITY OF RENO NEWS RELEASE

header-logo-6435232-2169155The City of Reno is turning the Reno Arch red for the month of February to recognize American Heart Month and National Wear Red Day on Feb. 7, 2014.

Allison Edwards, business development director, American Heart Association of Northern Nevada, said, “We are trying to raise awareness that heart disease is the leading cause of death for both men and women. It causes more deaths in women than all of the cancers combined.”

American Sign and Crane Service will be replacing bulbs on the Arch with 2,100 red bulbs on Friday, Jan. 31, beginning at 8:30 a.m.

The city is paying for the red bulbs and work to add them to the arch through contributions from the Reno City Council donation funds along with energy savings from using LED lights in the arch.

The American Heart Association encourages residents to wear red on Go Red Day and to go to GoRed.org to learn about other things you can do to raise awareness and funds for the prevention and cure of heart disease. The local chapter of the American Heart Association will hold its annual Go Red Luncheon on March 7.
