RENO, Nev. – The Wolf Pack women’s basketball team (5-6) will open the Mountain West regular season and the new year with a game against San José State (6-5) Wednesday night at Lawlor Events Center. Tip-off is 6:30 p.m. Head coach Jane Albright is 3-2 in regular season openers at Nevada. The team defeated Air Force 67-54 last season at home to open the 2012-13 regular season.
The match-up will be a Mountain West first for San José State, who joins the conference after playing in the Western Athletic Conference last season. The Spartans lead the overall series with the Wolf Pack 21-19 and have won the last two meetings between the two programs. San José State closed out the non-conference schedule at home on a two-game win streak, defeating Georgia State 95-81 on Dec. 18 and Kansas City 81-76 on Dec. 21. Ta’Rea Cunnigan leads the Spartans with 19.3 points per game.
