RPD NEWS RELEASE
The Department of Public Safety-Office of Traffic Safety has awarded the Reno Police Department $109,250 dollars in federal funds as part of a grant for the Joining Forces campaign. The goal of this grant is to reduce fatalities and serious injuries suffered by motorists involved in traffic collisions.
Joining Forces is a federally funded grant geared toward having state, county and local law enforcement agencies “join forces in an effort to enforce key areas of traffic safety.
The agencies participating in the grant will be “joining forces” and conducting activities and annual initiatives for speed enforcement; crosswalk, pedestrian and intersection enforcement; the multiple seat belt or “Click it or Ticket” mobilization campaigns and distracted driving, as well as DUI roadblocks and saturation patrols. These are several of the actual enforcement initiatives planned along with several other media conferences and public safety outreach programs to help educate the communities of northern Nevada.
The federal funds will be used to allow additional law enforcement officers to focus on these specific initiatives and campaigns during the federal fiscal year: Oct. 1, 2013, through Sept. 30, 2014.
