SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. – The Wolf Pack women’s basketball team fell 82-57 to Cal Poly Thursday evening at the Mott Athletics Center in San Luis Obispo, Calif.
With the loss, Nevada drops to (2-2 MW) on the season, while Cal Poly improves to (2-3 Big West).
Wolf Pack forward Emily Burns got Nevada off to a strong start, hitting two shots from deep as Nevada had an early 8-0 lead. Cal Poly went on an 18-2 run to lead Nevada 18-10 at the 10:56 mark. A basket by Anna Cameron with 9:21 on the clock ended a seven minute Nevada scoring drought. Kirsten Allen’s made three with minutes to go before halftime gave the Mustangs a 37-17 lead. Nevada guard Terilyn Moe knocked down a three to beat the halftime buzzer, where the Wolf Pack trailed the Mustangs 44-25. Cal Poly shot 53.1 percent from the field in the opening half, while Nevada shot 23.8 percent. Ariana Elegado had 17 first half points for the Mustangs on 5-7 shooting from beyond the three-point line.
The Mustangs advantage hovered around 19 points for the first ten minutes of the second half. A pair of free throws by Jonae Ervin matched Cal Poly’s largest lead of the game at 65-40 with 6:30 to play. Cal Poly finished the half shooting 48.4 percent from the field in the period, to 26 percent for Nevada, as the Mustangs won the game 82-57. Elegado led all scorers with 24 points. Mimi Mungedi was the lone Wolf Pack scorer in double-digits with 11 points. Nevada outrebounded Cal Poly 49-44.
The Wolf Pack returns home to Lawlor Events Center next week to take on Cal State East Bay Monday night at 6:30 p.m.
