rto_logo-300x300-2431811-3600836Great Basin Brewery in Sparks will play home to the inaugural Beer v. Wine CheeseTasting and Fundraiser on Wednesday, Nov. 13, from 5 to 8 p.m. Tickets are available for $35 in advance and $45 the day of the event, and proceeds benefit the Reno-Tahoe Open Foundation and the Food Bank of Northern Nevada. Nonperishable food donations in exchange for raffle tickets will also be collected, benefiting the Food Bank of Northern Nevada.

This unique fundraiser is a tasting of various cheeses that are specifically paired with both a Great Basin beer and a wine. Attendees will then get to vote on whether they preferred the beer or the wine pairing, and a beer v. wine winner will be announced based on submitted votes.

“Golf is a sport with a competitive spirit, a lot like this event. We all enjoy good beer, wine and cheese, and combining these things in a contest setting makes this fundraiser enjoyable for a broad spectrum of people in the community,” Chris Hoff, executive director of Reno-Tahoe Open, said. “We’re excited to see northern Nevada come out and enjoy this unique event while benefiting two great local causes.”

There will also be a silent auction and an opportunity raffle, where people can take raffle tickets they earn or purchase and place them into a bag associated with the prize they are after. Guests can earn opportunity raffle tickets by bringing two or more nonperishable food items for the Food Bank of Northern Nevada with every two items earning them a raffle ticket, or by purchasing tickets from Reno-Tahoe Open Foundation staff.

Tickets can be purchased in advance by visiting the ticket sales Web page, or by going into Great Basin Brewery in Sparks, the Food Bank of Northern Nevada, or the new Reno-Tahoe Open office at One East First Street (City Hall), 16th floor, during normal business hours. Ticket prices will increase to $45 at the door, and only a limited number will be available.
