Sheriff’s Office seeks volunteers for Sun Valley graffiti cleanup

washoe_county_sheriffs_office_log-3585701-6576522The Washoe County Sheriff’s Office is asking for volunteers to help with a community graffiti cleanup event in Sun Valley from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 12.

Volunteers will assist the Sheriff’s Office ongoing efforts to address one of the public’s foremost quality of life concerns by removing graffiti and cleaning up litter in designated parts of the Sun Valley Community. To sign up, call (775) 785-4239 or (775) 785-4242.

“Working together as a community we will make a difference,” Washoe County Undersheriff Tim Kuzanek said. “Each person who steps up to efforts like this one in Sun Valley helps to break the cycle and turn the tide.”

Volunteers will meet in the parking lot of the Sun Valley Community Center at 115 W. 6th Ave. Youth volunteers under 18 are encouraged and will need to be accompanied by an adult.

The Sheriff’s Office thanks the following community partners for their support of this event: the Reno Police Department, South Virginia Home Depot, Summit Ridge Home Depot and Sani Hut Company, Inc.

Residents may now report graffiti vandalism from their iPhones and iPads by installing the Washoe County Sheriff’s Office app. The WCSO app is available for free from the Apple App Store. Graffiti may also be reported online at washoesheriff.com.

The Washoe County Sheriff’s Office celebrated 150 years of proud service and community partnership in 2011. Sheriff Michael Haley is the 25th person elected to serve as the sheriff of Washoe County. His office continues to be the only full service public safety agency operating within northern Nevada and is responsible for operating the consolidated detention facility, regional crime lab, Northern Nevada Counter Terrorism Center, Internet Crimes against Children Task Force, court security, service of civil process, traditional street patrols and Regional Animal Services.
