Dr. Kent Sasse is hosting free diabetes and prediabetes testing for Northern Nevada, with assistance from Renown Hospital laboratory services. Earlier this year, his first screening diagnosed an alarming 67 percent of patients who received blood work with diabetes or prediabetes. He is continuing to provide screenings in an effort to reach more northern Nevadans and offer information to prevent, treat and even reverse the disease.
“I encourage more people to take advantage of this free screening, considering the surprising number of people who were tested at the last event and were unaware they were diabetic or prediabetic,” Sasse said. “Providing a free screening means significantly fewer people in our community will have to suffer from the complications of diabetes in the future,” he added.
People interested in receiving a free screening can stop by the open house and get blood drawn to measure the hemoglobin A1C, no appointment needed. Results will be provided by Sasse’s office the following Monday, Oct. 28.
“Type 2 diabetes is a fast growing disease and the number one cause of kidney failure, amputations and blindness,” Sasse said. “It can be reversed for many people before it causes severe damage,” he said.
