CITY OF RENO NEWS RELEASE

reno-logo-6182206-6397128This Saturday, as part of Make a Difference Day, Reno City Council Member Neoma Jardon will be joining Neighborhood Advisory Board members, volunteers from Keep Truckee Meadows Beautiful (KTMB) and students from the University of Nevada, Reno’s Service-Learning and Civic Engagement Program in cleaning up community neighborhoods.

Jardon along with the community volunteers will be focused on removing graffiti and cleaning up neighborhood parks while the UNR student volunteers will be removing graffiti in areas surrounding Project Solution. Project Solution is a safe haven for homeless kids, children aging out of foster care and low-income youth in central Reno.

“As the city continues to battle financial constraints, we have to embrace efficient, creative and collaborative solutions,” says Jardon. “Graffiti has negative effects on our community and its economic development both locally and nationally on so many levels. I’m proud to be a part of bringing partnerships like Keep Truckee Meadows Beautiful and the University of Nevada together, and the community spirit exhibited by our 50+ college students and volunteers giving up their Saturday to make our city a better place to live, work and play.”

On Oct. 23, Jardon donated $500 from her Council donation funds to Secret Witness in support of their ongoing graffiti/tagging rewards program. As part of their efforts to provide safe and livable neighborhoods, the Reno City Council has made graffiti a top priority by adding more staff to the graffiti abatement program through this year’s budget process. Council donation funds can only be used for nonprofit organizations that provide substantial benefits within our community.
