Basic requirements for security personnel consist of a high school diploma (or GED equivalent), a clean criminal record and the ability to write clearly when filling out reports. However, Circus Circus has upped the ante on that. We hire people with good attitudes, can think on their feet and can handle stressful, at times risky situations—due to that we and our director of security, Darrell Clifton, have been promoted in Security Management Magazine.

All incoming security personnel must undergo the following requirements: Submit an essay to show writing skills, physical fitness tests which include the ability to lift a minimum amount of weight, the ability to stand and walk for long periods of time and the ability to crouch for long periods of time as well in case there is an incident involving CPR or first aide.

The training process spans four weeks with the first week in the classroom with instructions. The other three weeks are in the field with a training officer. Outside of that, training includes a two-day defensive tactics class, one-day first-aid and CPR class, training on how to use pepper spray, aggressive behavior training, alcohol awareness training and training on how to spot predatory behavior. We want our guests to feel safe in every area of our property so we put a lot into the security we hire.

Apart from the security personnel patrolling inside, we have bike patrols and armed officers checking outside the facilities to ensure safety all around. All officers continuously complete ongoing training to handle any and all situations.

For more information on the security personnel, please pick up your own Security Management, a national magazine featuring our very own director of security, Darrell Clifton, and our amazing Circus Circus Reno security team.
